Lau Kin-yee fasts to protest filibuster
Legco deliberates replacement mechanism bill through the night

The Legislative Council yesterday deliberated the bill on the Legislative Council vacancy replacement arrangement through the night. There was a stand-off between those who supported and opposed filibuster at the protest zone outside the Legco. The scene was once chaotic. Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam Chi-yuen said staff had been stationed at the Legco on shift duty to ensure a quorum, stressing that the government would not withdraw the bill. Liberal Party chairperson Miriam Lau Kin-yee, together with seven other members, fasted 30 hours in protest of filibuster, saying the tactic was a form of parliamentary hegemony.

Political parties fail to form coalition government
Greece to hold parliamentary election anew next month

Greek political parties have failed to form a coalition government and will have to conduct parliamentary election anew next month. Chairperson of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde said if the Greek government could not honour its promise to cut deficits and realize structural reforms, she would not rule out Greece would withdraw from the euro zone. Affected by news of Greece's unstable political situation and the possibility of its withdrawing from the euro zone, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index once dropped over 700 points, closing at 19,259, hitting a four-month low.
